Despite the commerciality of this time of year, each of is still touched by the gifts we receive, cheesy though they very well may be. Whether it’s a glitter glue Valentine from our children, or a last minute bouquet of white carnations with the grocery store sticker still on them, we love gifts. We put a lot of focus on love in February because of the holiday, but what about the rest of the year? Of course, we love others, but what about loving ourselves? Sometimes you have to put yourself first. This isn’t selfish. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Loving yourself is accepting the fact that you have limitations and needs. Most adults in this world have far too much on their plates. Below, we’ve listed three easy questions to ask yourself so that you can keep feeling the love past February 14th!

  1. Do I Have Too Much on My Plate?  Every adult works at least 40 hours a week, but in spite of that, we continue to pile on the tasks and commitments. Maybe you don’t really have time to be in charge of carpooling for your child’s school’s drama competition. Maybe store bought cookies are just fine for the bake sale. There are only 24 hours in a day. Life is unpredictable enough, don’t be afraid to remove some of those tasks that eat up your time.
  2. Is This Really What I Want? Well everyone has to analyze spreadsheets at some point in their life, but is folding piles of laundry really worth hours upon hours of your life?
  3. Do I Need Help? There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help. We’re all human, some weeks we’re more superhuman than usual, but for the most part, our Batmobile is just a minivan. Help comes in many forms. Maybe it’s an after-school babysitter for your toddler or hiring HappyNest to take care of your laundry. Whatever it is, there’s probably a solution out there.
